A line of overcast stitches sewn over the raw edge. Simple type of seam, but effective in holding the fabric together and resisting light splashes of liquid as well as dry particulates.

Specific seams are fused with waterproof tape to prevent moisture penetration. Basically covers the small holes caused by the puncture of the needles when the garment is stitched.
